Every time I attend a Poker Blogger event I am reminded how this community of people from all walks of life is truly wonderful. This trip was no exception. And even though my interaction with my blogger friends has been limited over the last couple of years it did not affect the connection that I felt with this group.

I arrived late Friday night at about 1 a.m. which meant many of the bloggers had already left the MGM where mixed games were played. I did manage to see one of my favorite blogger friends, Waffles and his new pal Josie, Miami Don, Joanna, Buddy Dank, Lightning, Skidoo, Katitude, and few others.

The next day at the Aria, I arrived early to make sure I got registered okay for the Blogger tournament. AlCantHang and Falstaff were at a "Training" table and invited me to join. I paid the $25 bucks to get some training by Alex. The only things I remember were being told that "All In" wasn't my only move and to compare a semi-bluff to "Ghostbusters". In order to kill a ghost, you need multiple streams just like needing multiple things to work together in order to make a semi-bluff work. In addition, all the players at the Training table were entered into a last longer for $20 in the tournament.

There was also a team last longer, so I partnered with Patrick, the nephew of a blogger (Wolfgang or something like that), and Russ a blogger (Days at the Office) I had met at one of Smokkee's home games. We named our team - Days with Poison.

To sweeten the event, there were a few of the original bloggers with $100 bounties from Full Tilt - these bounties were represented by a small box of band-aids. Dr. Pauly had a $100 PokerStars bounty on his head.

As luck would have it, my starting table included 3 bloggers with $100 bounties, AlCantHang,Falstaff, and Dr. Pauly. Also at my table was Bree, Snuffy, Mattie, Geek and Proud, and Speaker.

My new title as 2010 WPBT Bounty Babe was earned by taking the following bounties:

1) Bree - Avenging Unicorn set with a White unicorn, 4 different horns with special powers, and 3 figures that could be stabbed in the abdomen by the unicorn. Once rewarded with this bounty, I put the set in front of my chips to act as defenders.

2) Mattie (I don't remember the blog name sorry) - He had the most original bounty - A dvd "Poker Secrets from Poker Champs - Money Management" and a salami football which I sliced once we were down to the final table for everyone to enjoy. It was pretty tasty.

2) Dr. Pauly - $100 Pokerstars- I called Pauly with Ax suited in the big blind and called his flop bet when I had a flush draw. The flush came on the turn. Pauly shoved with a set and was disappointed by my insta call and ultimate win when he didn't improve on the river.

3) Falstaff - $100 FT and a of his book "Returning the Favor" - So sad how bad my memory has gotten. I can't remember how I won this bounty.

4) Brian (FT Social Media rep) - $100 FT and Stanless Steal Flask.

5) Katitude - Beaver I did the honorable thing and called from the BB when she shoved her short stack. Unfortunately, she could not survive the hammer.

I also busted Gracie, but she didn't have a bounty - which I shouldn't be one to speak since I had no bounty for my slayer.

It was a great ride. I had a early chip lead, but didn't learn enough in my pre-game training (hahaha) to know how to play with a bigger stack in the middle tourney stages. I lost chips to Gnome when I misplayed pocket 4s.

Ultimately I busted 12th when BadBlood called my all-in from SB with KQ hearts with against his A4 off from the BB.

MiamiDon earned his first place finish (6 places chopped, but he had the chip lead) with his aggressive play when it was down to 2 tables.

So even though I didn't make the final table, I did make $300 in online bounties and $20 from the Training table last longer, plus the other cool rewards. And if Drizz could have just busted 7 or 8 on the final table, I would have made another $200 bucks from the team last longer.

It was great seeing everyone and especially nice to get a hug from the best midget in the world, Iggy.

Keep it Simple

"Keep it Simple" Veneno- This was the best advise I received during my private lesson with Phil Gordon - July 2009. Although I haven't gotten a big score from using his advise, I have seen improvement in my results.

After play poker for years, reading bits and pieces from poker books, blogs, and from players at the table. I was making the game too complicated. The biggest mistake was my focus and effort on picking up tales, which is not to say that I don't pick up tales now and then, but my focus on this was distracting from poker fundamentals.

As in poker, so with life, I've recently moved forward in resolving some big issues that had been a source of great stress. One of which is picking a new apartment that will give me a 15 minute commute instead of the hour plus commute that I currently make to work.

Looking forward to a anticipated improvements the simplicity will bring both at the tables and in life.

Sooooooooooo disappointed!!! I played a couple of the BBT 5 events this week. On Monday the Poker from the Rail Tournament. Finished 13th. And tonight played the Mookie. The winner gets into the BBT Tournament of Champions. It was fun to play with some familiar bloggers. I made it to the final table as the chip leader. And kept the lead until it was Head Up. Then this happened.

What an incredible weekend!!! The Dream Team Event at Ceasar's Palace is sure to be an experience I will never forget.

On Friday I arrived late to the Friday night reception and the first person I see at the entrance was none other than Phil Hellmuth. From that moment on, I was consumed with the excitement of being in a room of top notch players, poker enthusiast, and friends. Once in the room, I glanced at the wall of Team Jerseys and found the "Poker Poison" attire for the event. It was quite a sight. (See the picture from the Dr. Pauly's blog) Yes, he was there too! His recent post captures the essence of the event much better than I could ever do. You must read.

Once I get a chance, I will load the some awesome pictures including one with Phil and another with Kristy Gaze.

Congratulations to my team mate Masih, we all call him Mas - as in "queto mas", who finished 10th in the event! You did great job hanging in there with the likes of Tom McEvoy at your table.

TEAM ACED WINS FIRST PUBLIC DREAM TEAM POKER TOURNAMENT
Record Turnout Sells Out Caesars Palace Poker Room

BEVERLY HILLS, March 30, 2009 -- Team Aced won the first public Dream Team Poker tournament that featured a sold out field, big name poker pros, celebrities and a packed house. 148 teams totaling 444 players entered the event at Caesars Palace Las Vegas with a $222,000 total prize pool.

Team Aced, led by Ashley Nataupsky’s 4th place finish and Jamie Gold’s 9th place finish, and also included Houston Waldie, took home the first place team prize of $59,940 and the championship trophies.

“It’s the most fun you can have without $12 million on the line,” said Gold. “My WSOP bracelet is in a vault, but my Dream Team Poker trophy will be on my mantel for all to see.”

Danny Nelson, Team BikerHaven.net, who entered the day with $119,000 chips, was able to fight through the final 25 players to win the individual prize of $23,976. Nelson went heads-up with Philip Rousseaux (The Claddaghs) for 45 minutes before sucking Rousseaux in on the final hand. Both players limped into a 4-8-K rainbow flop. Nelson (K9) check-raised Rousseaux (J8), who responded by making the mistake of moving all-in. The 6-7 turn and river were of no help and the individual champion was crowned.

Rousseaux entered the day second in chips with $408,500 and battled his way through the final table as The Claddaghs were locked in an epic struggle against The Clones for second place in the team standings. Rousseaux’s runner-up finish secured The Claddaghs second place team win and netted the team a cool $33,300.

“We blew the doors off of Caesars this weekend,” said Dream Team Poker Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Delshad. “The entire poker room was packed and there was a level of excitement in the air that you don’t see at most tournaments. The tournament exceeded our expectations and we expect to see more like it at Caesars Palace in the future.”

Poison meets the "Chipburner"

In my quest to play in one of the NL events in the LAPC at the Commerce Casino, I decided to join one of the single table satelites with 10 players for an $80 buy-in. The prize was $600 tournament chips and $120 cash, plus a LAPC cap.

At my table I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of fellows promoting the
"Dream Team" event at Ceasars that I've posted about previously. One of them being the Chipburner and the other a young 22 year old (I forgot the name). Little did I know that I was playing with one of the top NL players as stated by Dan Harrington no less.

"He is mentioned in Dan Harrington's NLH Book as one of the top three No Limit Hold'Em players in the world."

Early in the game, I chipped up in a hand versus "Chipburner" when I hooked up a hand of AK and a board of AKx (all clubs though). This chip up helped me to patiently wait for playable hands and ultimately win the Sit-n-Go. Unforturnately, I did not score the $720 payout. When the table was down to 4 people we struck a deal to pay the 2-4th players $80, so that everyone was guaranteed to win at least the amount of their buy-in.

I had to repeatedly reject offers to chop when it was down to 4 people, 3 people, and even at HU. One player in peticular was anxious to leave when there was 4 left. He kept hoping that I would bust so that there would be chop. Instead, his impatience cost him and he busted 4th. There was less than an hour to the start of the NL Tournament. But I stood my ground because I was either going to win and play in the Tournament or take my $80.

Immediately after collecting my payout, at about 20 minutes to 1 p.m., I registered for LAPC Event #15, NL Holdem $545. Starting at table 24 (the day of my birthday). There were a few interesting people at the table including a Semi-Pro who was sponsered by Poker Stars by the name of Bob.

I didn't have too many exciting hands. My first big dent took place when I had JJ. The player on my left joined the table about 30 minutes into the tournament. Shortly after he arrived. I had JJ utg. I limped in for 50 and he raised to 300. It was folded around and I raised another 900. He called. The flop came with and Axx all diamond. I checked and then called his bet for 500. I was hoping that he would suspect a trap and let me see another 2 cards. The plan worked, but I didn't hit my 2 outter when we checked the turn and river. He had KK and won the pot.

In reflection, sure I could have started the betting with more and maybe folded preflop. Or saved $500 on the flop. But really I don't think how I played this one hand made a big difference.

The next hand that cost me was QQ. This time I bet for $300 in EP. There was a re-raise pre-flop, as was pretty common on this table, to which I called. The flop had an Ace. I lead the betting. Got called. Not sure how it went from there, but in the showdown I lost to AT. Drats! No respect!

Finally, when I was down to about 2k in chips with blinds at 100/200 and antes of $25. I chose to make a move with A9 suited in mid-position. My image was pretty good and it was folded around to the button where one of the short-stacked aggro players shoved for $400 less than my total chips. Previously he had shown down a few all-in hands with Ace rag or less. I called. This time he had the goods, AK. I was down to 400 chips. I doubled up a few hands later, but quickly blinded/anted down to $400 before switching tables. First hand on that table was QJ of spades utg. I moved all in and lost to KK. Ironically, I hit the flush on the turn but was countered when the Ace of spades came on the river. And I finished at about 245 in a pool of just over 400.

Despite the loss, it was a good experience. One day, I will be sharing a story of a victory instead of an experience. In the meantime, at least I got a free cap!

In preparation for my Dream Team trip, I decided to start getting in some MTT play. So I joined the Midnight Madness last night on Full Tilt. Shortly after 2:30 a.m. I started having connection problems. It was down to 10 players and I was second to last. It was soooo frustrating. Lately, my internet has been having problems, so that was what I assumed. Once the system was up again, I discovered that it was Full Tilt. Here was the result:

Itching to go to Vegas, I called one of my poker pals from the Tustin Rounder crew and started discussing plans for a Vegas-bound road trip. Our former host, HighPlains, who is planning a move to Las Vegas, provided the perfect excuse to initiate this event.

A few days later I receive an email introducing me to a new tournament format that has me completely intrigued, "Dream Team Poker".

So, the plans are in the works to put together one or more teams to play the event on March 27th.

This is something to get excited about!!!!

But today my curiousity got to me when I saw a new game type on Full Tilt called the "Matrix".

Then I read about the format and got interested.

Every once in a while I think about improving my game by reading strategy books and using software tools. I've read a few chapters in books and downloaded software, but then I come back to reality where I know my poker activities are more for the social aspect. I really don't want to work that hard at it. It's fun. But how cool would it be to find a tool that was fun and easy to use and keep my primary focus on chat and entertainment while playing poker?

I think I might have found a Poker Odds Calculator that is just that. I like the layout, the colors, and the information is good too.

And if I'm on a bad run or bored, the Poker Listings site is a great resource for getting a "pulse" on what is happening in the Poker World. Just in one page you can get some very interesting stats. Personally, I love clicking on the profiles of the Pros to see the pictures.

If you decide to use the calculator, please let me know what you think.

The OCPT (Orange County Poker Tour) has really been putting together some fun events. The next tournament is scheduled for this coming Saturday night. Below is a little cut-out from the invite:

This event will be the standard $20+ Rebuy structure, except there will be a mandatory double buy-in for $40 to start...This is expected to be one of the largest OCPT special events ever, with the largest prize pool to date, so don’t miss it.

This will be a sat. game. there is a pool and kitchen so everyone is welcome to bring swim trunks. if the event goes past 10pm we will have to move to my house which has ample room for a final table plus I would think that cards in the air at 4pm would work for this schedule. I will also bring the grill down to the pool for anyone one who wants to bring something. I will provide sodas and light snacks. alcohol is not a problem but I would like to keep any ruckus to a minimum. this will be a BYOB and BYOM that's bring your own meat to grill I will bring down condiments

I've played with the host for the game above and his lovely wife at a new home cash game that has been running in Huntington Beach. He is a tough competitor and usually makes out nicely at these games. I have been holding my own making a profit for the last 3 games at $80, $10, and $37. Not a lot mind you, but this is a $40 buy-in with a enjoyable crowd. One of the guys at the game is training to be a bartender, so I've been letting him practice on me...hehe

OCPT Tour

I had a damn good time at Smokkee's hosted event for the OCPT. This despite the fact that I did not cooler or suckout on Smokkee as has been the case in our prior meetings on the live felt. Last year I landed Quad Js vs his boat.

Lil Elf makes these events the bomb with her munchies including meatballs, toasted bagles and all the fixings (my choice the pizza baggle mmmm cheese), along with veggies, cheese & crackers, chips, ohhhhhhhhhh, and lots of boooze! For those not interested in keg of beer (that would be me) there was wine and mixed drinks. I opted for Elf's suggestion of Amaretto Sour, which hit the spot perfectly.

Blinders did an excellent job as usual on running the event. I would watch his blog for a recap of his hands at the final table versus Smokkee. He was set on winning the Charger Tickets bounty on Smokkee's Head. By the time it was down to 4 people Smokkee swore that just to spite him, he would lose it to Russ the Accountant, the only person at the game who didn't want the tickets. Which was in fact what happened. It was all highly entertaining. Lastly I must thank him for the cool jams which I enjoy throughout the event.

My starting table included Blinders and the following:

Russ - one of my pals from the Tustin Rounders (the poker crew from HighPlains home games. I sure do miss him.) He was much more tan that usual from his recent days at the beach.

Russ - the accountant that I met last year at Smokkee's. Might have been the only person not to drink (because of a limitation which could result in his death).

Drew - one of the OCPT Tour members. I have played a few times with Drew and his girlfriend Christina, winner of last year's event, who was seated at the other table. They are both good players.

Mike - one of the OCPT Tour members. He was cracking us up with his "acting" and gestures during the game. He was the "over-thinker" of the night. At the final table with Elf, we were waiting for a long time for Elf to act on her hand after Mike essential put her all-in. The board had a KQxxx. He was making his faces and reached and tilted his cup for a drink only to find nothing was left. All of us at the table chuckled. He was getting squirmy with all the waiting and Elf was staring at him looking confused. We all thought she was trying to study him for a read, when she was thinking he hadn't acted and was wondering why it was taking so long. Finally, Drew spoke up and said, "I know she is the hostess and all, but can we get a clock?" Once she realized it was her turn to act, she responded immediately with, "I'm all-in". The cards were shown with Elf having AJ spades and Mike with 88. And the little Elf was out.

At the 2nd table there was...

Smokkee - our host was kind enough to give us some white Bodog caps and black Bodog T-shirts. Thanks my friend for an awesome night!

Lil Elf - the hostess with the mostest. I had to disappoint our hostess and not get completely smashed and stay the night, since my secret boyfriend was pestering me to leave the party. To make up for it, Elf and I have agreed to plan a girls night and make sure to turn off my cell. Thanks for making the event super duper!

Christina - this woman can play the game. She is a tough competitor. Her and Drew play in a few poker leagues. She played one of the $1500 events this year by winning a $300 sit-n-go. I wouldn't be surprised to see her cashing in a major event.

Al - the luckbox from our Tustin Rounders crew. When I walked into the game (late as usual), he had already won the first 5 hand that were deal. Which he boastfully made sure to tell me.

I don't remember who else was there....

All 3 woman made it to the final table, but none of us cashed.

I left when it was HU with Blinders and Russ the account still at it.

A few hands before my bust, I was up against Smokkee, me with KQ clubs and Smokkee with pocket jacks. The flop came with 2 clubs and an A. He checked to me and I insta-shoved. Smokkee threw in his cards face up and said I fold and some other commentary that I don't remember. I only mention this because of my sick delight at causing any frustration on players I respect. So my mission was accomplished and for this I am satisfied. He would get even later.

The highlight of Smokkee's evening was taking down the Poison! We were at 30 / 60 blind level with my stack right about 10 times the blinds. He was seated in the cut-off position and bet 200. Players behind folded and I shoved in the bb with A3. He called with AK. The board didn't save me and I was out.

I agree with EasyCure's comment, Smokkee next time make the annoucement sooner and bring some of our neighboring bloggers to California!

Another Year

Still in my horizon, but not looking like this year is the chance to play in a WSOP event. I thought 2008 would be the year!

It has been a rough year so far. I feel blessed to have a job, a roof over my head, and food on the table. For a while I thought I would end up living with my parents...ughhhh!!!!!!!!!

Absent is the luxury of live poker play and the weekly games with the TustinRounders. I sure do miss that!

I still find entertainment in the lower limit sngs on Stars and Full Tilt. But the games are in the $2-5 range. Still it was amusing to find out that my current sharkscope status is HOT! Haha..so meaningless at the levels I'm playing.

This coming weekend a few bloggers will head to Vegas for another WPBT. Call me for the dial-a-shots and I will be ready to celebrate with you guys.

This week I finally went to court to complete custody, child support, and dissolution of marriage proceedings. So with the exception of a few last forms, it is done. It didn't end with everything I wanted, but I will get start getting a much needed child support payment. More importantly, this chapter of my life is closed.

Letting go and moving on has been a journey of ups and downs. But somehow I feel that this final step was what was needed in order to advance into a life of abundance.

Thanks to all my friends and family who have made the bumps on this trip easier to bare.

I played a couple of tier one SNG's on Full Tilt this week. You pay 11 + 1 on a single table, winner gets a $75 token and second gets $24. On both my games I came in first and got my token.

Getting the token, as you know, is just not a big deal. Generally, I don't ever cash with my sweet little tokens.

I gave some thought to saving my first token to play one of the blogger big games. But given the fact that I don't have much money ohline that plan was tossed.

My plan was to play the tier three a $69 + 6 SNG with 9 player. Top 3 places cash with first place payout of $310.50.

This Christmas was a bit strange for me. I didn't go to the malls. Didn't participate in the frantic gift wrapping at the last minute. No shopping for presents would have made it a stress free season if I wasn't worried about other things.

EM lasted about 5 days in my residence, so that ended as quickly as it started. On a good note, he did give me the rent money for January, so I will have another month to job hunt without having to move from my apartment.

Although things have been in a bit of a downhill spiral of late. I feel that a turn for the better is just around the corner.

One of the very thoughtful gifts that I received from my family this year was a perfumed shampoo, bath & shower gel and spray fragrance by philosophy called Grace. It had the following lovely message on the bottle:

how you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain. and, so it is with life, which for many of us becomes one big gigantic test followed by one big gigantic lesson. in the end, it all comes down to one word. grace. it's how you accept winning and losing, good luck and bad luck, the darkness and the light.

As I read these words, I realized that through of all the tests and lessons, there are a few things that have never been lost, one of them being grace.

The weekend before last I had the pleasure of attending the latest blogger Vegas event. Even though my trip was only for a night, it was enough to remind me why I enjoy being a part of the poker blogger community. Outsiders will never understand how poker bloggers from all walks of life can connect in such a meaningful way.

I felt the love. The kinship. The appreciation.

My bucket was filled. It was a rejuvenating experience.

Thank you my friends! And thanks especially to the little man who wouldn't let me stay away.

So if you have been waiting to start your blog, wondering if it will be good enough. Wondering if people will read it. Coming up with other excuses not to start. Let me just say, stop waiting. Exotic Berry is my Poison of choice for the evening. It is a Bartles & Jaymes flavored malt cooler that is quite tasty. And my donation site for the evening is Poker Stars. Now that I have time and but no money, I've been playing the low limit MTTs for kicks.

Last night, I made after playing about 4 hours in a 3.30 MTT, I made a whole 7.36 (whoopeeee!!!) by finishing 30th.

I've also had fun donating at some of the recent blogger events lately. There are so many new bloggers that I don't even know. How have you guys been missing your proper orientation? Didn't anyone tell you that you must play HU with Mrs. Poison? Hit me up for a HU match already!!!!!!!!

Pissing and Poker

Last Saturday night, I played at a home game that was set-up in the garage. The host asked all the guys to piss outside in the dirt and the women could go inside the house. The more I thought about it, the more disgusting it seems. And yes, I stayed and played the game anyway.

I just kept thinking that if the men are pissing outside then they are not washing their hands. Ugghhhh!!!!!!!!! So I was touching the chips and cards that were touched with hands unwashed after urinating. TOTALLY gross!!!!

Even more disturbing was the fact that people were eating pizza and chips after touching the cards and poker chips.

So I decided to do some research about hand washing. Here are some of the things I found:

Tonight, I was in the mood to play me some pokah! Of course, my accounts online were at a balance of zerooooooooooo. I could reload, but I've been trying to watch my spending.

Then I saw Jordan on the IM. He had $10 to return to me from the chess challenge I didn't play (which would have been a waste). He gladly sent me the $10 plus an extra buck. I foiled his plan of taking it all right back via a one on one match. We ultimately decided on playing an $11 two table SNG and sent an invite to Fluxer to join us.

The game was fun. But even better was hanging out with my buddies and enjoying some Donkalicious poker play.

Flux got screwed and busted early on with TT, vs 99 and AK. Jordan made a nice come back from a short stack. Then doubled up when he had AA vs my KQ. Then it was a race to the finish. We figured one of us would make it. I pushed with AK of diamonds and Jordan called with QQ. I hit the flop and Jordan busted on the bubble. He was very gracious and continued to cheer for me till the end when I finished second.

Great playing with ya guys!!! And don't worry Jordan, I still want that HU game....

So has anyone been wondering about me? I've been around here and there. The other night Mr. Dreamy invited me to play a Super Sat to the FTOPs Main Event with a bunch of bloggers. Even though I didn't make it, I thought it was a cool idea. Fluxer made it to the Sat, but unfortunately didn't land a seat to the main event.

I did win a $75 and $26 token this week. Not sure what to use it on.

Most of my focus lately has been on finding a new place to live. I will be enduring the ordeal of moving again the end of this month. I'm looking forward to more space. I still have way too much stuff for an apartment. The new place is 1200 sq. ft compared to my current 900 sq ft place. But more than that, here are the other cool features:

1) It is 16 minutes from work!!!!!!! (you guys know how much I always spend driving, this is gonna be heaven and who knows might even give me the chance to play some more blogger events that are wayyyyyyy too early)

2) The school district is great. It rates a 9 on the Great Schools site.

3) Did I mention 1200 sq ft for a 2 bedroom?

4) It is a single story place. (I won't miss the hearing the bed banging on the second floor. Yeah...I'm jealous!)

5) Walk in Closet!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I need every inch.

6) Close to the Laundry room. I just take a short walk about 50 feet and I'm there. Anything to make the laundry experience more tolerable is a plus.

7) Large Patio. This one is actually large enough to put a table, BBQ, or whatever.

8) Parking spot is close to the apartment. After hauling things from parking lot to apartment..I think I will love this.

HighPlains had a special 6 max event last night with a two table start of 9 players for a $40 buy-in. This is one of my favorite games, so I definitely didn't want to miss it. I finished first for $172.

I wish I could keep up with my reading of blogs. Every time I open one, I'm finding really cool things. Hoyazo monied in a WSOP event. Jordan is running a chess tournament which I am joining. And Bloggers having fun at the last WBPT in Vegas.

If anyone chats with VinNay, he needs to put up a special banner and ode to Veneno..hehe..Congrats on his win last week of the MATH.

Live from Los Angeles...

Some of you may have noticed that I am rarely online anymore. Aside from still being busy commuting all the time, I've been enjoying one of the perks of living in LA, playing live poker!

My most recent series of live stops started last weekend. I joined the $40 buy-in no limit game at Hawaian Gardens. This game can be a little crazy, but I was fortunate to find a table where most of the players had well over $100 in chips. You know I'm not into the details, so to make this story simple, I ended up cashing $250 ahead after 2.5 hours. Super sweet.

Next stop, the ladies tournament at the Bike. This is one of my favorite events. They usually hold a ladies event 4 times a year which includes a buffet with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The food is great. Plus they give all of us ladies a couple of charms for a bracelet. We feel pretty special. The women are all in good moods and it is quite the social affair. I generally attend with my girlfriend Debs. In fact, I called her the night before to join me. She was interested but had no money. So I told her if I made money at HG, I would stake her for the event. I think that was partly why I was able to leave HG with money. Once I had enough to pay for both our buy-ins ($60 each), I didn't want to blow it. Upon leaving HG, I called her and told her I was on the way to the Bike to buy our entries for the next day. This way, we didn't need to rush or worry about it selling out. I did just that. Then went home.

Unfortunately, Deb's husband called the next morning to tell me they were at the emergency room. She was in pain due to gall stones and was gonna have surgery that day. The Bike was really good about giving me back my money. I was pleased that it was no hassle at all.

I was pleased with my play during the tournament. There were 133 entrants. When it was down to 3 tables, and 6 places to the money, I had about 9k in chips with 300/600 blinds and 100 antes. There were a few people as low as 2k, so my plan was to just play premium cards and not try to do anything stupid. I look down and find myself with QQ utg. I raise it up to 1800 and a short stack shoves with about 3k. She has AJ off suit. I call. She hits her A and I lose. Then a few hands later, another short stack with about 3k moves all in. I am in the bb with big slick suited. I call. She has pocket 5's and they hold. I'm crippled. I finally go in with Ax and lose. Busting in 21st place 3 away from the money. D'oh!!!

On a good note, I went staight to the $100 nl tables and made $150.

That same night is my regular home game at HighPlain's place. It was a small turn out of 6 people. I end up winning and make another $60 bucks. That win brought my league points up and I am in 2nd place with one more week to go. The way the league works is that a portion of every week's buy-in is put towards the championship event. The starting chips for that event are determined by your final standings for the 10 week league. I am generally dangerous without chips, so those boys better watch out this championship game. Cause I'm gonna be a terror....hehe.

Tuesday night, I stopped at HG again. They had a $58 shootout event with a maximum of 27 players/3 tables. I joined. While waiting, i headed to the cash game. I was doing okay and then my last hand, I limped in LP with Q9 off. I end up hitting the nut staight on the flop. A short stack in EP leads the betting and goes all-in for $61. Next player moves all-in for about $85. Then another goes all-in for over $100. I have to go all-in with my $150. I have everyone covered. The shorty ends up filling a boat when the board pairs and I end up $7 ahead. Dang...to take that pot down would have been grooooovey!

I head to the shootout. Everyone starts with only 500 chips. My first big move came when I called a raise to 75 on the bb with J5 spades. An Ace is on the board along with a possible gut shot for me and a flush draw clubs. I check and he checks. The turn gives me a straight. I check. He bets. I smooth call. The river makes the club flush. I shove. He thinks for a while. Finally, calls with Cowboys and is disappointed to see he has lost all his chips to my straight. Once I had chips, I was on a roll. I ended up busting 6 of the 9 players on the table. The top 3 move to the next round. During the next round, I get a lead early again when I call in LP with K9 off. Lucky me lands a boat on the flop. The initial raiser bets all the way down and is all in by the river. Poison doubles up. Weeeeeeeeee. I had the lead for a while. Then lost 3 races in a row. Finally ended up busting in 4th place making a profit of $40. Too bad. 1st was $575.

While live play has been fun and profitable, online has not been so good. Boobie Lover helped me bust my last bit of money on Fulltilt last night. Prior to that, we were entertained doing a battle of Roshambo on UB. I'm telling you, it is a total blast. You gotta try it!

My plans tomorrow are to play the ladies super satelitte at the Bike. Wish me luck.

Aside from that, I have plans for a fun post coming up. Inspired by a new co-worker that writes riddles, I have written a poker riddle. I'm working on a special deal to go along with it, then it will be posted. Anyone out there even like riddles?

Some poker moments really suck! I could taste it. I was already picturing myself playing in the WSOP. It was mine. And then it was gone.....

I do want to play in the WSOP. It is a dream of mine. So I signed up tonight with 1000 of my stars FPP and gave it a shot. After six hours....here is the result.

Smokkee and Elf Rule!

A big thanks to Smokkee and LoveElf for hosting a fantastic Poker game last Saturday night. And to Blinders for coordinating the tournament.

It all started when Boobie Lover beat me HU in order to win a free dinner from yours truly. He decided to come to LA to collect this past weekend.

In preparation for his very first visit to California, Smokkee and Elf agree to open their home for an evening of poker goodness. Smokkee does a nice job of recaping the evening.

I should post a picture of the LoveElf slapping Boobies buns. He has quite the grin. But I'm gonna get to bed instead.

A Good-Looking Geek?

DDJ has been trying to convince me he was a Geek. But I just didn't buy it. How could such a good-looking guy be a geek? Didn't make sense to me.

So I put him to the test. I made him take the Math Geek test.

He not only did well, he liked it!

I couldn't even get freebie number 4. Finally I just gave up.

Big Game Blues

So I finally played the Big Game. I wasn't planning to but LoveElf and Al encouraged me, so how could I say no?

My final decision came only minutes before the game. Should I really risk about 1/3 of my FT bankroll on the Big Game? No time for Token Frenzies. I did win a $26 Token in a HU sng, then realized there was no HU game for the $69 token. So I paid full price.

If only it were a game of luck, I might be a money making player. Lately, I'm only donating. Especially any money I lay on a cash table with bloggers.

But worse than that, I have lost 4 straight HU games with Fluxer. While he has had the lead on me this year, I was never concerned about losing my lifetime victory. I mean, I had an 11 game lead on him last year how could I lose? But things aren't looking so hot. Even wine didn't help last night! Instead, I lost another 3 matches.

But today...tide has turned...

I had fresh blood to introduce to the Powers of the Poison. Anyone remember this Geek? Today he hit me up in IM for the first time. We had a very nice chat. He has been out of the poker/blogger scene for about a year (hmmm he got married about that time). See what happens when you get a life? I keep trying to warn you people. Relationships and life will interfere with poker/blogging. I'm just envious...maybe one day...my life will be tooo rich for these things.

During our chat, I reminded him of how he blew me off in the days when he was popular and I didn't even have a blog. I was just learning the game and Waffles told me PokerGeek was a really good player. So I was complimenting him at a table on Party Poker (mmm...I do miss Party) and he types something like, "Are you done sucking up to me yet?" It was funny to remember. He was nicer to me when we met in person to play poker with other bloggers at the Hustler last year. I don't think he even remember the incident as I was a "nobody" back then...not that I'm a "somebody" now.

Today, I couldn't resist offering him a chance to play me HU. He was in an SNG, but took the offer when he busted. It was quite the battle. The match lasted 76 hands. He was in the lead early. I was down to 455 in chips when things turned around on the following hand:

Ben Roberts: Good question, if you are already a winning player then the element of luck over a long period does not come in at all. We are talking about long term.

Question From ICdedmoney: Hello Ben, what edge does a good tourney pro have over an average amateur in the WSOP ME?

Ben Roberts: A good player will always have an edge over bad players whether it is a cash game or a tourny. The only difference is that with tournaments it takes a little longer for the profit to come in.

Question From Watanga: Hi Ben, just wanted to ask you how can i learn to deal with long bad runs even being a winning player? I found very frustrating those streaks and they affect my confidence,even if im putting my money in with the best hand most of the time

Ben Roberts: Visualising yourself as an overall winner before the game can be a great help in controlling your bad beats. Also remember that losing in a session or 2 is absolutley OK. Be confident in your game, concentrate on performing well.

Question From roboem: is it not that the best players are the ones with the bankroll who can play more tourneys?

Ben Roberts: The top 10% of pro players have 1 thing in common. They all
started at the bottom 10%.

Question From gambit333333: is it easy to make a living playing poker

Ben Roberts: You need passion because when you fall, which you will, your passion will energize you to move on. As long as it remains a labour of love its easy.

Question From bigbluff85: Which game in your opinion has more skill Limit Hold em or No limit Hold em?

Ben Roberts: No limit Hold'em is generally a richer and more profound game.

Question From socalsuzi: tourney play question..would you advise to start aggressively or conservatively (sit back and learn about the other players)?

Ben Roberts: I prefer to start conservatively and gather as much information as I can, for future decision.

Question From ONOTHINGO: Hi Ben. Which do you think is the highest level of
poker: the mathematical approach or using instinct and going with your gut

Ben Roberts: I would go with my instinct and my gut feelings, although a
mathematical knowledge is needed to begin with.

Ben Roberts: Yes I do to an extent. Generally, when you know what your opponent
holds, the rest is easy.

Thank goodness for my suckout Powers! After losing the first match, I had to suckout with K6 vs Ax to win the second. For the last game, I called with AJ s and called Jamins all-in when he shoved with K60. It will be sweet to see the "Poker Poison" name on my challenger.

Did You Miss Me?

At least one person noticed that I hadn't posted in a couple of weeks. Of course, that person knows I have had some post worthy activities happening. Below are a few highlights from what you have been missing.

I have a great time playing HU with Fluxer. Mainly cause it feels sooooo good to beat him. But it is also entertaining to see how MUCH he enjoys beating me. I'm sick, I know, cause I enjoy both. So no matter what, I have a good time. UNTIL.. it cost me major cash. For the first time, I did not enjoy losing to him soooo much. Things started out good. The other day, we were playing some 5.25 games, which is my usual against bloggers, and had a 3 to 1 lead. Then he wanted to up the stakes to $50. I agreed. And won. This put us at 20 - 20 for the year. Of course, Flux will have to give you all the details of why I got lucky and should not of won a couple of these....lol....I don't remember all THAT stuff. I'm a results kinda gal. After these, he suggested we play a $100 game. I actually hesitated. Then agreed. Lost. OUCH!!!!!!!!!! That did not feel sooo good.

Waffles finally played me HU this year. And LOST!!!!!!! hehehe. He was bragging about how he has been kicking ass with some of the other bloggers. But there is only one blogger that counts when it comes to HU. My question was...."Can you beat the POISON?"...the answer....NO.....lol...This did feel good.

Drizz and I played our Omaha Hi PL Heads Up game recently too. He assumed that playing Omaha would give him an advantage over the Poison Powers. But he was sadly mistaken. Don't you know Drizz, my weakness is STUD. Thanks for playing. I know you don't even like HU. So I appreciate the good time.

Then there is Mr. Slb. He had pretty much decided not to play HU with me anymore because I don't take it seriously in his opinion. Hmmmm....me not take Heads Up seriously? Does he read my blog? Does anyone else post a chart of HU activity?...lol...He thinks that, primarily because I will soooo shove the first hand even, if I get the hammer. Ironically, he has confessed to using this move recently and winning...haha. So anyway, if you recall, he had told me he would play me HU if he won the CC Heads Up event a few weeks ago. He did. But I guess even with that victory under his belt he is intimidated by the Powers of the Poison...hehe.

KGB has yet to complete our challenge. He has been waaaaayyyyyyyyy too busy with a life of all things. See why you shouldn't get a girl friend? You forget about poker! That is just wrong. It looks like someone has been messing with his blog too.

Then there is this mystery blogger who offered me a challenge to play a live game. If I lose I gotta get a tattoo of their blog. I was super thrill with the offer. But we keep missing opportunities to play. TEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a great time donating to my blogger friends at the cash game the other night. Just reading the chat with Smokkee gunning for Fluxer was amusing. As one non-blogger on the table put it, "This is better than TV". If you have never played a blogger cash game, you are truly missing a good time. It just hit me, Smoke has yet to play me HU. What is wrong with you boy? Get with the program..lol

There are a few people that I would especially like to play Heads Up:

1. AlCantHang - He tells me he will kick my butt if he plays me drunk. Bring it on Baby!!!
2. Duggle - Doug is a player I really respect. But ever since he discovered that War of Worlds game he is hard to find online. Come baaaaaaaaaaccccccccckkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!
3. Gordogg - I think I'm ready for this aggressive toker. He bested me last year, but I'm pretty sure I got his number now.
4. Snailtrax - I still feel cheated that we didn't end up Heads Up in the Vegas Blogger event. Would be fun to face you one on one!!!!!!!!
5. Up4Poker - I want a shot at winning another cool bounty from the Luckbox!
6. Mr.Bracelet - Someone have a link? What girl wouldn't wanna have one on one action with this cutie?

I've been traveling a bit of late. Over the last three weekends, I've been to San Francisco, Vegas, and San Diego. All you guys really care about is Vegas so let me give you a little recap.

While it was a great time with two of my good friends Gordogg and HPD, it was anything but profitable. Perhaps Mr. Braclet will be happy to know, that I don't always run HOT. Here is a breakdown:

Poker: -360

As you can see, I didn't win at ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!! I did have one winning session of limit poker at the Palms on the last day and made $20. Weeeeeeeeeeee.

If I had just listened to MiamiDon, he gave me a betting tip on Sunday, but I couldn't make it down to the sports book in time. I had to check out of the hotel. Next time, I need to get my priorities straight, bet first, checkout later.

On a good note, I got totally smashed on Saint Patricks and stopped just in time to avoid another Mango Tequila incident. I discovered a new drink I like, Irish Car Bombs...although, I still don't care for Guiness alone.

Last and most importantly, I somehow missed Kat's Birthday celebration. Hope you had a good time girl friend!!!!!! Guess I better get to reading some blogs and keep up with the current events.

Poker Poison's 2007 HU Challenge

I've been on quite a losing run with online poker lately. In the past, when I had these runs, I could always turn to my HU games for fun. At worst case, I would usually break even.

But now, even Heads Up has taken a turn for the worse. Fluxer, of all people, has found my number. Keep in mind, he has seen me play more HU games than anyone and has actually played me more than anyone. Plus, he has had the advantage of watching me play others with the insight of getting to know what I have and how I play. I of course have the same kinda advantage of knowing his game. I do give him credit for one thing, he didn't give up. There are some who couldn't handle playing me anymore. Who actually told me, never again. The torture was too much..lol. Flux on the other hand was persistent. After being humiliated last year with the worst record, he still came back for more.

I'm not sure there is any other blogger who seems to get as much satisfaction out of beating me in HU. Hearing his sheer delight is almost worth the whipping. Almost!

Congrat Flux, for moving to the top of the HU challenge for 2007. Now, it seems you are more than capable of handling the Power of the Poison. I still find it hard to believe you have a 5 game lead on me. I'm starting to feel pwned by Fluxer. Ohhhhhhhhhhh noooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I've decided to offer a reward for the 2007 HU leader. I will think about the reward. Open to suggetions. But whatever it is, it will be engraved with "Poker Poison's - 2007 HU Champion".

I finally got a call yesterday from the local blogger making arrangements for our LIVE HU match tomorrow night. I do not care for tatoo's so this is one match that I don't wanna lose.

This is How to Get Free Drinks

I'm sure everyone has been wondering what is happening in Veneno's world..haha

Can you say Heads Up? Oh yeah! Still playing HU. Still having fun!

I owe you an update on a few of these exciting events.

First and foremost, a little midget finally got the best of me. After pwning him in 2006 with a record of 9 and 0 (*he did win our very first match when I kept pushing all in because I didn't realize it was him, so I threw that score out). These matches were never on my chart prior to now. Admittedly, he was drunk during most of our matches. This year, I had to nudge him into our first match. He was willing, but on one condition, we had to up the stakes from our usual $5.25 games to $50. He won. I could hear the glee in his voice. At that point, I was actually happy he got me once. Once was okay. And I was having a complete blast playing and chatting and just enjoying his delightful company. Then on to match 2. He was willing to drop the stakes back down, but I was not. So we played another $50 game. He beat me again. This was not okay. How could I lose? He was my sure thing...lol...We had to play one more. This time I did agree to drop it down to a $20 game. He won. And so the I lost my undefeated status against the blogfather. Bummer!!! Congrats Iggy. Despite losing, I had a fantastic time as always. Iggy now leads the pack with the best HU record vs the Poison for 2007.

If there was one blogger I could aggrevate more than any other in 2006, it was this youngster. I would taunt him endless about our HU matches. Use it as proof that I was a better player (haha...I knew it had no weight - but it was fun...hehe). He had the worse score (poor thing...he didn't know about Iggy-maybe that would have made him feel better). He of course thought HU was all about luck and no merit should be place on a specific skill or edge in HU. This year, he has played me more than any other blogger. He is the one ASKING ME to play. I think he has actually been turned on to this game. And even more amazing, he admits (perhaps not publicly) that I have helped him improve his HU game. While he is not leading, he is holding his own against me. We are 10 and 10. And I must say, our games now are always a challenge. I must find me a new sure thing!

My marathon HU challenge with KGB continues slowly. We did get in one game last month. It was our first match without Stud (I suck at Stud), so I finally showed him the Poison Power! Felt good to finally take a match.

Now for the most entertaining HU challenges for 2007. I have already had 2 challenges this year with the BoobieLover. The first, we were discussing terms for a bounty on a 1 game challenge. I said, "How about the loser buys the winner dinner". He thought I was joking and reminded me he was only halfway accross the nation from me. I then informed him that the bounty would be paid at the next blogger event we attended. I've been trying to get this guy to come out to an event like he should! He agreed. And had a few more questions, "How lavish of a dinner are we talking here? Like expensive wine and shit too? Do I have to wear a suit at this dinner?" I said yes to all of the above..lol...Oh yeah, that sounded SWEET!

So with the terms set, we played our match. We were talking on the girlie chat and having an entertaining time, as only HU matches with the Poison can be. He won. I felt like such a loser. Now I have to have a date with this good-looking, blonde, blue-eyed, intelligent sweetheart with a voice that would knock your socks off! I'm such a loser..hehe. If only I were 10 years younger!

Now here is where you learn about getting free drinks at a blogger event. Our next challenge was a best of 3. The bounty, free unlimited drinks at the winter blogger event. Now with this kinda reward, I had to put forth my best effort. No fun and games. This was for a weekend of booze! We played two matches. I won. Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! I'm always so bad with details but I do remember a few things aside from winning. Our second game was my longest game ever. It went 118 hands. What a pain! Duration is not one of my strong points. I tend to get impatient and make mistakes. We went back and forth a few times in this match. I finally set him up when I played 34 suited and hit a staight on the flop. We checked the flop. And he lead the betting on the turn. I smooth called. And we were all in on the river. He still had some chips left at this point. So on our final hand. I called his all in and hit my straight flush. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Unlimited drinks for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

We still have details to work on, but the bottomline is that BoobieLover is gonna take on 5 challengers to get his own drinking sponser. I think this is a really cool idea. Steve did the honors last night of hooking me up with CC for a HU challenge. CC had been waiting a long time to face the Poison, so how could I turn him down when he suggested that we play?

As is customary, we first had to negotiate terms for a bounty. Since my girls were waiting to watch a movie, I suggested that any reward be for their benefit. They are fond of a Disney actor by the name of Corbin Blue, so for my prize, I would get a couple of magazines with Corbin Blue should I be the victor in our best of 3 series. CC wanted to have some munch a crunch or something like that. I might need more clarification....lol

We played our matches. And CC took me out on the first match when he called with AT vs my AK. I knew it was bad when I had the better hand. I don't remember the details of the second match. I just know I looooooooooossssssssssssstttttttttttttttttttttt!! So not only does CC win his first HU challenge with me, but I have yet to beat him, and he moves to the top of the 2007 list. Congrats CC.

To make me feel better, he sent some pictures of his absolutely adorable boys and suggested we set up our kids for a Double Date. Too funny!

It's a new year and the HU matches are in full swing.....

Everyone wants to make it on to my 2007 HU chart. This week I got to play two of my favorite HU competitors, Jordan from HighonPoker and Weak_Player.

Jordan and I have set our challenge for a best of 5. Winner will receive a poker T-shirt. So far we are one and one.

Since I still owe Weak those bloody cookies, we did not wager any new bounties. Our match was my longest so far this year, 73 hands, yikes!!!!! My luckbox reputation is ALIVE!

Starting from behind at 1 and 2 didn't stop me from Vanquishing the mighty VinNay. Our last two matches were true battles. He definitely made me work to get this victory with the first match going 55 and second 35 hands. No quickies with him. But the best part is that I collect another bounty. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Keep a look out for a new banner and ode to Veneno on his site.

I also played in a 4 person HU shootout yesteday and won.

After receiving my cute little Bonsai from CJ, I realized it was time for me to pay up on some of my own bounties.

Trip finally received the Personalized Silver Velvet lined card holder that I owed him. I got this IM from him today:

I got a few Vs to share with you....

First KGB got me in what he calls his Vendetta match. I think he wrote it up nicely. It's true, I suck at Stud. But I have a feeling that I will improve before this series is done. Thus far, I am 0 for 2 in our 15 match challenge. Despite my loss, I've been enjoying the conversations and witt of this super young and challenging player.

Second, VinNay has officially made it onto the Veneno HU Chart. If you haven't check out all they new charts, please take a peak when you get a chance. I don't remember much about the first match other than the fact that he won. After this, I decided to give him a taste of my wicked aggression. In the final hand, I pushed with the nut flush, he called. I can't blame him after I had showed a few stone bluffs with all-in moves. On the final match, I hit my straight on the river, but lost because the same card gave him a bigger straight. Doh! Congrats VinNay!

Also, make sure and read his post "January kicks me in the Junk". I found it to be very entertaining. But even better, were the comments left by Jo.

Third, V is for "Victooorryyyyyyyyyyyy!" I played in a Super Satellite to the 750K guaranteed on FT. In order to win my seat, I had to beat 62 other players. Because there could be only one winner, I played a bigger range of hands and was highly aggressive. Once I moved into second place, I slowed down a bit and picked my spots more carefully. It was sweet to say the least. So I will play the 750k Satellite this Sunday at 12:30 pm PST and then with any luck, I will be in the big game at 3 p.m. PST.

Time to Track

It's time to start tracking my poker activity. I've done it before and found it to be valueable. I went back to the free tracking site, Poker Dominator (recommended to me by Tripjax) to start inputting my sessions for this year. I've only entered a few sessions and will need to get back to it later.

I'm just going back for sessions in 2007, so that I can track my results for this year. Some of the things that I'm interested in knowing are the following:

1) Net profit/loss for the year
2) What games are most profitable
3) What sites are the most profitable
4) Hourly rate on cash games
5) Online versus Live play comparisons

Of specific curiosity - How much money do I spend getting those bloody tokens? You know the ones that have never resulted in any profit. What is percentage win/loss on those same token SNGs? I think I'm due for a win!

What I can tell you without even entering the information, I'm up this year. Even with the loss of $250 on that blogger cash game, I'm still ahead for 2007. Most of the profit has come over the last week. I've played about 7 sessions of 1/2 nl 6 max ring games. Made money in 5 of the 7. The net profit for those 7 sessions is $380.

No offense to my blogger friends, but I'm avoiding cash games with you guys. Whenever I get on a blogger table, my donkey mind set kicks in. For me personally, I know it is a -EV scenerio.

I will keep you posted. Cause I'm sure you guys are all soooo interested in how im doing...haha

I have been working a lot of long hours which is cutting into my poker time..ugghhh. The beginning of the year is pretty busy. And I've been under a lot of pressure to get everything done.

To make matters worse, I when I brought my girls home last night, they soon started feeling sick. Any doubts I had about deciding to get two restrooms disappeared. I had one barfing in each toilet. It was a sleepless night.

This is the kinda day when you really need a little something special. And thanks to a super terrific blogger, I got just that!

I was sitting at my computer working in my front room when I heard someone knocking at my door. This is extremely rare. It was the UPS man with a delivery. Hmmmm. Sweet! Wow a package for me?

Excitedly I opened the card first. Who would send me something?

Now I knew. It was my bounty reward for beating CJ in our HU challenge. Awesome. So I opened the package and found the cutiest little bonsai tree. I loved it. It was just perfect.

Thanks CJ for making my day. That is the best bounty that I have received. I definitely can't wait to beat your butt again...hehe

See guys...that is why HU and bounties are so much fun. You might just get something special on a day when you really need it.

The Donkey Experiment

It was inevitable that I would have a donkey session this year. So why not get it out of the way early?

This week I joined one of the blogger cash games you may have been reading about at the 1/2 NL table. Weak_player was generous enough to leave the table and give me the opportunity to sit. The bloggers I played with included Waffles, MiamiDon, Mr. Dreamy, TroubleCat, PokerNome, Fuel55, Zeem and Fluxer. I think I forgot someone...

Blogger games for me are generally a temptation I cannot resist. Understand that one of my primary reasons for playing is for the social aspect. But this blogger table was no social affair. These guys were out to get each other and I was just wasting a seat.

I generally buy-in short in order to limit my risk. A fun about for me to donk of is in the $50 range. But this night, I did not limit my risk to a "fun" range.

My first buy-in was for $69. I lost most of this to MiamiDon, when I bet into his nut boat. Sweet!

Then I bought in for another $60. Donk!

By now I was not very pleased (Poison tilt). The stubborn side of me took hold and I placed the balance of my FT bankroll on the table, $120. This sum dwindled gradually until I had about $80 to donate to one of the bloggers (Zeem I believe) in my final donk style move. Instead of making a move on the flop or the turn. I called him down with a flush draw and pair and lost to a pair of tens when none of my outs hit.

After busting out, I realized the following:

* I was out powered (being a short stack for all sessions)
* Outplayed (definintely not playing my best)
* Unlucky (my flops were not hitting and I did not suckout)
* Not having fun

I had one my first SNG of the year the night before on a $50 table made $170 profit. And earned $176 profit the week before on a cash game. These were nice scores for me. But in the end, donating this profit on the Blogger table, was not worth it.

I will chalk this up as a lesson learned.

Last night when Waffles and Mr. Dreamy tried to entice me into making another donation, it was easy for me to say - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I still have a few hundred on Stars and money on Neteller to play. Think I'm gonna stick with HU for my entertainment. And get back to my SNGs for building.

The Poison Power is back with a fury! I think this is gonna be a good year.

Today's head up event started on UB with a random player redraptor77. We played a total of 4 matches before he declined to play. Results: 3 and 1

Then it was Ingoal's lucky day. Not lucky in terms of his beating the Poison, but he finally got to have his shot at some one on one action. Our first match was the typical NL Holdem. It was a fine match. You just know it's gonna be good when your first hand is the hammer! I bet 200 with blinds at 20 and he folded. Woo hoo! With the hammer drop out of the way. We were off and running. We swapped the chip lead midway. I got it back. Then finally, took him out after 56 hands in Poison style...see below:

This Omaha match kept going and going (41 hands of Omaha to be exact). I kept hoping the game would change. Before the match..I called out for a "double dose" of the Poison Power to ensure my victory. Incidently, I took down a nice post with a 72 in the mix of my cards.

Then it was time for some RAZZTASTIC. It was wild, fast, and crazy. And despite my good call on the final hand. Ingoal finally got a piece of me.

I had a blast Ingoal! Looking forward to the remaining games....

It's a new year! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

A few hours into the New Year and I get an IM from my pal TrumpJosh. He blew away his blog again, so don't bother trying to click his link. This time I think it might be for good. But he will always be a special blogger to me. Some of you may remember that it was because I wanted to leave a comment on his blog that I started my blog. He restricted comments to bloggers. And I was not gonna let that get in my way of leaving a remark. Waffles was my inspiration to actually publish content and share this thing with the world. I figured if he could do it. So could I. haha!

Okay, so back to my story. Josh IM's me. He says he could put some money online for the sole purpose of playing me HU. Now unlike many of you, he pwn's me at HU. Yeah, I really hate to admit it, but it's true. So for Josh, starting his new year playing HU with me is an automatic ego boost for him. He is sure to be happy.

Not being one to turn down a HU opportunity even against my ultimate rival, I agree. I end up being getting in a match with someone else first because Josh screwed up! The donk gets lucky on me after I set a trap with my flopped straight. Runner runner for him and he hits a flush!

Josh beats me the first match. I win the second. And he wins the final. Hearing his laugh was well worth the sacrifice. Call me silly. But if by losing I bring sheer delight to a pal, then I am pleased too. That is why playing with voice is the only way.

And then to make myself to feel even better, I figure I must play the one person that I'm sure to beat. ...hehe...Flux (aka DP)...He owed me a match. And it was good to know...I still pwn him. Weeeeeeeeeeee.....That felt good. Especially since I smack talked the entire session. Starting with..."Are you sure you can handle this"..."Will you be okay WHEN you lose"...etc.

And then for the match I've been waiting for. I'm kinda glad it didn't start until the new year. I had my first match with KGB this morning. Our challenge will consist of the following:

2 NLHE
2 FLHE
2 Seven Card Stud
2 Omaha
2 Omaha 8/OB
2 Razz
3 HORSE

We will tackle these in reverse order.

I agreed to wake up at a ridiculously early hour just to start our challenge today. It was worth it.

The HORSE match was a good one. We made it through all the games and were on our second cycle when it finished. I was pleased just to survive the stud games which I loath. In the end, he was the victor. If he chooses, I'm sure you will get better details from him. I remember the experience and bottomline results.

But better than the match. I got to know a really smart and interesting person who enjoys a challenge just as much as myself.

Tears of Joy

Once I finally got my girls on Christmas, they were all smiles in a really good mood. They were happy.

They were pleased with the Ditigal cameras, clothes, and a few games that Mom got them. It was a good Christmas in spite of it all.

Then I opened the present from them. They wrapped it. The present was a paper Christmas wreath, a paper Tree, and a bunch of little coupons for Hugs, Kisses, baked brownies, and such. I loved it. And then I opened the card they bought for me. Here is what it said:

I Didn't Expect It

This morning I expected to smiling and happy. Christmas day is mommy's day. I get my girls today. Even though I've been adjusting to my new solo status, and to the fact that my family has been broken, the holidays are more difficult.

I've been keeping busy. Making sure to spend time with friends and family the last few nights. The poker game on Saturday was a blast! That story will need to wait. Last night I went to my sister's house and had a wonderful time. But today, today it hit me. I wasn't prepared. I should have been.

I called this morning to wish my girls Merry Christmas and see how soon I could get them. My mother-in-law answered the phone. Her and my father-in-law live with EM. They had lived with us since before my children were born. I wished her Merry Christmas then asked to speak with my girls. Silence. "They aren't here", she finally replied. "Where are they?", I asked. Soon I found out they had stayed the night with EM, his girlfriend, and her four kids. I held my composure with my mother-in-law, but inside I was screaming. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

A new picture formed in my mind. One I didn't like. This picture made me soooooo upset!!!!! My girls are having to share their dad on Christmas. They already resent the time and attention he gives his girlfriend and her kids. But on Christmas too? They are part of a new family now. One I don't belong too. That hurts.

To make matters worse, I then tried to call my girls on each of their cell phones. No answer. Then his phone. No answer. I felt so separated from them.

The day will get better I know. EM called while he was out on a food run. He will bring my girls in one hour. That knowledge finally calmed me and I was able to stop the flood of tears that have been spilling for almost an hour.

I'm glad I had online friends to talk to this morning. Thanks Waffles and Carmen!

A Fun Filled Week

Here is a short recap of my week:

Sunday -
The Badugi game at HPD went well. That is definitely my kinda game. You know I love action. And Badugi is full of it. So how did this lady fair in her first Badugi game? How's 2nd?...Woo hoo

Monday -
Played a little online. Joined a 4 way HU with HPD. He made it to the next round. I went about 55 hands and finally lost. Speaking of HU, Gordogg beat me last week in one hand. Gordo, help me out what were the hands? All I ever remember are the results. I LOST in one HAND!!!

Then I used my token that was won the week before in a MTT. I have won so many tokens, but never, not once have a made money with them. Then played a $4 MTT on Stars with Gordogg. He went all the way to final. Must have finished in the top 3 after I went to bed cause I saw that I got a transfer with my cut the next day.

While in the girlie chat with a few bloggers, they started talking about a home game in Laguna on Saturday night. Hmmmm.....that sounds good. So I got the information along with an invite to stay the night with two of my new blogger friends on one condition, I must witness this blogger put panties on his head while he dances. Heck, I would pay to see that...lol

Tuesday -
Live at the casino. I went to the Hawaiian Gardens Casino (yes, mistake number uno), but it is right on my way home. I bought into a table. Play was very loose. So I decided to raise in mid position with KJ sooted (yeah, second mistake). The flop came with a K 6 2 rainbow. The EP player made a min bet. I raised it up to a pot bet. He came over the top. I knew I had him. I moved all-in since he had me covered. He had K 8 and hit his 8 on the river. That was enough. It was just a little pit stop.

Wednesday -
I had an enjoyable evening with my girls. We went to one of their favorite restaurants, Chilli's. The In-laws were invited too. They have been part of my immediate family for over ten years, so it was nice to have their company. They have been very good to me during all of this. Then I took the girls to shop for a present for their father. My little one asked, "Why are you gonna buy a gift for Daddy? He is your ex husband." I told her that he would always be her daddy. The truth is I just wanna be nice.

Thursday -
First, I spent some time with my girls again. This night they wanted to go to one place, See's Candy. My oldest is a true chocoholic just like her mommy. So we went to the candy shop. Becca, my oldest, picked out a package with chocolate balls, a chocolate cigar, and a box of lollipops. Julia just wanted so milk chocolate coconut.

After dropping of the kids, I called HPD to see how things were going at his cash game. Pop's was there...lol People joke about how easy it is to take money off of this player. So I asked if anyone wanted anything. Pop's wanted a no carb Rock Star beverage.

Upon arrival, I ran into Pop's in the parking lot. He already busted out for the night. Drats! Someone beat me to him. I gave him his Rock Star and headed inside.

It was a lucky night for me. I rivered on a few people to take down some really sweet pots. Once with AK of spades. K and two spades on the flop. They other player was raising and re-raising. We finally were all-in by the turn. He had two pair. I caught my last spade on the river. I made over $15 on that pot alone.

By the night's end, I made $26. And had a great time as always.

Friday -
What a blast. So many bloggers in the girlie chat including: Drizz, HPD, Gary, Surflexus, Kat, Waffles, Jordan, Gracie, Smokkee, Elf, Sox, FP, Princess, and Slb. Me and my girl Elf were having some Pino.

First we played in the 25k guaranteed on FT. Kat, Gary, Smokkee, Sox, and myself had a last longer bet going. Gary won the last longer and was the only one of the group to make the money. Well done!

HPD pointed out the $5 HORSE event and a few of us joined. HPD finished short of the bubble in 18th place. Fastpitch made the final table with me. And I hit a nice payout of $93 for my 3rd place finish.

Badugi Anyone?

I'm getting ready to join High Plains Sunday night game. Tonight will be my first time playing Badugi.

Here is a description:
Badugi is a triple draw, four-card, low-hand wins game. The best low hand is comprised of four cards, with none of the same suit, and none of the same rank: i.e. ace, two, three, four all of different suits are the best possible hand.

There's a dealer button, a small blind, and a big blind. Cards are dealt in the same manner at holdem, but everyone is dealt their own four cards, facedown.

Betting occurs, then there is a discard/redraw phase.

There are three rounds of betting/drawing cards, then a showdown.

The best hand is 432A, all different suits. Pairs are bad, and the same suit is bad.

If you end up with 5422, you actually have a three card hand (542). If you end up with 542A with the 5 and A of the same suit, you actually have a three card hand (and you'd use 42A). The 42A would beat the 542. Lower cards are better.

Any four card hand beats any three card hand, and any three card hand beats any two card hand. The worst hand you can show down is quad kings. You're playing a solo K.

Vegas Memories

I have been stuck on how to write about my Vegas experience. How can properly convey how amazing it was to meet and party with my blogger pals? I have been enjoying the write-ups of a few of my friends starting with Al, Iggy, Waffles, Pauly, Garth, Kat, and Derek. Their stories put a smile on my face as I remembered what is sure to be one of my most memorable life experiences.

Pauly said it best and even though you have already re-read his comments on PokerWorks, it is worth repeating:

You have to believe me when I tell you the trip was extraordinary…not because of the poker…
not because of the partying…
not because of the poker pros…
not because of Vegas…

the trip was amazing because of the people involved.

There is no way that I can say it better. I know I'm not one of the best writers of the group. So I'm just gonna list a few highlights:

First, Mr. Bracelet was kind enough to mention me in his post:

If Veneno isn't the luckiest blogger there is, then I don't know what to think anymore. Maybe it's because she's the most positive blogger you'll find, but whatever it is, she just can't lose. She hits trifectas, plays just shy of basic strategy and crushes blackjack, 2nd in the blogger tourney, and the list probably goes on. She even, well...I'll let her tell that story if she wants to. She should open up one of those 900 lines selling picks.

It was absolutely a lucky trip for me! By the end of the trip, I paid for my room, bought lots of drinks for myself and others, paid for meals, shopped and still left Vegas with 1k more than I had when I arrived.

It was a blast playing Blackjack with Bobby, BG, and Speaker. My apologizes to BG for failing to do a good job on third base and costing him money twice. Bobby tried to help me with the whole hog nutt thing, but I just couldn't get it right. So I guess I just had to get lucky. And that is what I did. Once I hit a $350 profit on that session I bailed on the guys to head for Three Card Poker.

The list does go on. In addition to the things Bobby mentioned, I had the following:

Craps -

I knew hitting the Crap tables with Newbie Garth was bound to be good. Craps is my absolute favorite casino game. Yes, I love it even more than poker. No other game do you get the same energy and excitement. Garth was INCREDIBLE with the dice. (I still love ya today Garth!) A couple of the sucker bets I like to make are HORN bets on the COME out roll and hard ways. He hit my HORN at least 3 times. He made his point repeatedly. He rolled Hard ways. On the last two hard 8 hits, I had already increased my bet to over $10 (so one hit alone paid $90). By the time he finished, I looked down at my chips. He had helped me recover some losses from this session. And I was more than $300 ahead. Next move..I slid my chips to the dealer and said...cashout!

I was also highly impressed with the Princess who discovered a way to touch Garth's perfect chest during the Crap session. Anytime he did good (which was often) she would rub his chest and say "It feels like VICTORYYYYY". Garth was enjoying every minute and looking quite groovey with his Elton glasses and black Aussie T-shirt. I also enjoyed watching him sing and move to the music throughout the trip.

When it comes to craps, I do have one weakness. Being the uncoordinated person that I am, it is a challenge for me to throw the dice and hit the other side of the table. On one session, with Ftrain watching, I decide to throw the dice. Before releasing, I warn the dealer, "Please watchout". First roll. I hit the dealer with both dice. I swear it was not on purpose! He was very gracious about the whole thing. And Ftrain got to laugh at me. So I guess it was all worth it.

Slots

* Slots are not my favorite, but I decided to invest a few bucks to see if I could hit it big.
* With $20 investment in the Big Spin, I hit the spin and won $100. I cashed out with $107.
* Then I put $60 into the Blazing 7s, hit for $300, played that down to $300 and cashed out.

Roshambo

Tommy was kind enough to make a $10 donation to the Veneno bankroll when he lost in a rematch of Roshambo. It was close this time, but I remained victorious. Our life time matches 2 and 0. See you next year!

I did lose in a match to Vinny. This new blogger is pretty sharp!

Heads Up on the computer

Pablo wanted to play me heads up. So of course I could not say no. First I had to beat Sox. Not a problem. I made $20 from each of them. Then Joaquin played me for "fun" and beat me. Finally, Falstaff took $20 when he beat me.

The Blogger Tournament

I cannot tell you how honored I was to make the final table at this event. This felt sooooo goood! And although I'm sure there are many who assume that I got to the final by sheer luck, I think others saw that sometimes Veneno can play a solid game of poker.

As for the luck factor in the game, I was fortunate to sit next to the Irish reader Jim. Something about an Irish man in green just feels lucky. So I decided that I would rub his arm for luck on every break. Incidently, we both made it to the final table.

My starting table included MiamiDon, Otis, Chilly, CC, Irish Jim (or is it Tim), TexasApril, Waffles, and Leigh from The Poker Atlas. Unlike some other tables with incredible players, I felt I could hold my own with this group.

I thought some of my best moves were the hands I laid down. After chip building up to a decent stack, I lost a big chunk of chips vs MiamiDon. I ended up folding my AQ which gave me top pair. I'm certain he had me beat. Another versus the Irish guy when I had TT and the flop was QQx. When he pushed in I turned to him and said, "I think I have you beat". I watched for any sign of weakness. He was solid. My read. He had me. I folded.

Waffles managed to escape my plans at trapping him. Once with a full boat. Unfortunately, he respected my betting and folded. Another time, he folded to my late position all-in with KK when he was in the big blind. Thank goodness I raised or he might have beat me with his A rag. I took a few limping bets along with the blinds on that hand.

Chilly made the mistake of facing me and gave me my first bounty. I got four packets of hot sauce as my price. Not sure what to do with it yet. Perhaps I should ask Daddy. He seems to know what to do with hot stuff.

TexasApril finally decided to make a move with pocket 8s. I called her raise pre-flop and ended up hitting 2 pair with my 67. I checked to her and when she bet I moved all in. My hand held up and she was left with almost nothing.

Falstaff joined the table later and ended up doubling me up when I sucked out with 44 vs his 55. I was short at the time and felt it was time to move with my pair.

From that point, I was pretty much just patient. Took down a few hands uncontested. And waited as the blinds continued to rise.

By the time it was down to 2 tables, I was just hanging on. Me and Biggestron were ridding the bubble for a long time. The big stacks were using their chip power well. My blinds were constantly under attack. But I waited. Finally, I had a break when Michael Friedman called my all-in raise with A8 suited vs my AQ.

Once on the final, I laid down 77 when Sox pushed preflop with AK I think. The next time he made the same move, I called him with TT. My pair held. And Sox was out. Instead of a bounty, he gave me some kinda fisted gesture. Thanks alot Soxy!

When it got down to 5 players, we decided to make a deal. Everyone would be guaranteed $750. At that point Daddy and I were the chip leaders. Jim was not far behind. Micheal and -EV had less than half of the chips compared to us.

During the break I went to talk to Iggy. Told him I was still in it with 5 players remaining. He told me, "Just don't bust Mattie". Shortly after getting my instructions from the blogfather, I did just what he told me not to do. I hit my set of 5s. Let Daddy bet into me. By the river we were all-in. That's how I busted Daddy. Despite this win, I was a little disappointed. If there was anyone at that table that I wanted to face Heads Up it was Daddy. It was fantastic to play with him and watch him in action. I'm totally a fan of this big teddy bear!

Once it was down to the Heads Up game the blinds were so big that with any raise you had 25% of your stack in. -EV played a great game. He was aggressive to the end. And I could not out play him. Congratulations Kevin. Job Well Done!!!

As a consolation, -EV gave me his bounty..A smoking Donkey...lol..classic...thanks!

Other highlights

* Biggestron gave me a nice welcoming hug without hesitation. Big deal for the non-huggy guy.
* To make-up for my overdue debt with Weakplayer, I bought him a big Chocolate chip cookie.
* Gcox was a sweetheart. I was sooo happy to finally meet him. But still NO CD!!!!!
* Dinner with Joaquin. He kept hinting all weekend to work me into a sweat. But it turns out he is all talk..haha
* The blogger conversation at the Bar on Sunday was sooo enlightening and entertaining. I will never forget the tips.
* I rarely eat meat, but after that conversation I joined Maudie for a hamburger. It tasted really goooooooooood.
* Getting a thumbs up from Joanna.
* One blogger made me feel extra special with compliments and a few wonderful kisses...too bad he waited until I was leaving Vegas!
* Brunch with Waffles, Don, and another blogger.

Who is the Luckbox Now?

I must interrupt my Vegas recaps for an important update.

My HU challenge with the infamous Luckbox was concluded this evening. And the true luckbox was the victor. Before the game began, I told CJ that "my luck has been excellent lately". He on the other hand replied, "BadBlood suggests my luckboxing is over. lucky in love... unlucky in cards."

We had an excellent battle. I took the lead early and never gave it back. Finally, we both hit a Top Pair...I was behind with a 6 kicker to his Q kicker. He pushed on the turn. I called. And hit my 6 on the river. Boooyah!!!! Yes, I sucked out. That's what I do. Hehe...

CJ will be picking a nice housewarming plant for my new appartment. Any blogger making their way to California is welcome to meet my new Luckbox plant in person.

So speaking of Heads Up..I have other delightful news to share.

Just before my Vegas trip, I received the following email:

Bloggers in Love

I left work shortly after 4 p.m. on friday afternoon to the John Wayne airport. Since my intended room mate cancelled on me, I decided to fly to Las Vegas instead of driving. This proved to be a very wise decision. Now I would be able to make it to the MGM in time for the cocktail hour with the bloggers. Wooo hooo!!!

As it turned out, I ran into my first two bloggers, Smokkee and LoveElf, outside of the gate for my flight. We chatted for a bit and soon were heading to the entrance to board the plane. They went ahead of me and then the attendant asked me if I was traveling with anyone. I thought that was a strange question. "No", I replied. To which she informed me, oh then you need to wait for your zone to be called. Doh! When I did get to enter, Smokkee and his girl were nice and comfortable in the first row section of 1st class. That sure looked sweet. I then found my spot in a middle seat. Soon I was sandwiched between two people and no room to move. Thank goodness this flight was just an hour!

Towards the end of the flight, I hear the annoucement. "We would like to congratulate, Smokkee and Elf (they used their real names of course) who just got engaged on our flight." I give out a little shout, which I'm sure they couldn't hear. Wow that is great! I know them.

As soon as I came off the plane, they were waiting with big smiles. I embraced the too of them in a big hug. Then I checkout the beautiful ring. It was a sweet moment to share with this cute couple.

Then I asked if it was cool to start spreading the good news. They had no objections. So the text messaging began. First to April. Then a few others. I was pretty excited to see two bloggers unite. And finally, a text message to the happy couple to offer another congrats.

I couldn't agree with him more. And my experience this weekend in Vegas was the "Best High" I've had in a long time. From beginning to end, it was packed with enjoyable moments and good conversation with some of the most wonderful people I know.

Dreaming of WPBT

It's always interesting when I wake up in the middle of the night dreaming of something poker related. Tonight I was dreaming of the upcoming WPBT in Vegas.

Perhaps it was because the Roshambo Lord finally told me tonight that he had booked his reservation.

Or maybe it was because I can't wait to drink SoCo with this hippie, who made me smile tonight with plans for the upcoming event.

Or could it be because the infamous karaoke blogger has promised to bring me a long overdue CD.

Then again, maybe I just can't wait to get my hands on the best blogger ass around.

Of course, it could be that I'm just looking forward to rubbing the tiltmeister's head.

Perhaps it is the fact that I will finally get to deliver cookies to this friend and his lovely wife.

Or maybe I just can't wait to have fun with best blogger girlfriend.

It certainly could be thinking of the opportunity to win some money off of the Cranberry man.

How could I miss a chance to be in the presence of Mr. Dreamy?

Perhaps I'm just craving another Dave sandwich.

Maybe this trip I will get to join the Vegas tour guide.

Will I get to win another wager with this awesome bowler?

Will the this lovely lady bring her kitty?

I am looking forward to getting a big hug from this finger flipper and his better half?

Perhaps I'm overdue for a visit with the doctor.

All I know is that this wiz better not hit another royal flush to knock me out 2nd to last in the tournament.

I owe a big thanks to this wonderful person for making my dreams come true.

Luckbox helps a Friend

After a night from hell...(2 hours spent with EM)...I needed something to lift my spirits....A HU game with the luckbox was just the ticket!

It was a fabulous game. One of the better matches that I have played. I was in the lead first. Then the luckbox was able to pull a suckout on me and counter my 2 pair when a pair came on the board. Now CJ got the lead. I was able to recover and then get the lead again when he missed his draw. Proof that luckbox isn't always lucky. Finally, I was able to trap him when I hit the nut straight.

Thanks CJ for helping a friend who needed a little HU to lift my spirits.

Trash Talk Gone to Waste

This morning I was awaked to the sweet sound from my cell phone indicating an IM message was received. Who would be messaging me at 6:00 a.m.? It was Mr. AlCantHang.

So I open his message hoping to find a nice warm morning greeting, but instead get a reminder of my not so fabulous effort in the HUC4. Al's message said, "You choked against NewinNov?". My response, "Yes".

I could sense the disappointment in his next comment, "Tsk tsk and all that trash talking gone to waste"...so true my friend.

I'm sure many of you would like to know how this could have happened....(okay maybe only a few care). The first thing I remember New saying to me was that he hadn't played HU other than final stages of tourneys. Hmmmm...that sounded good...lol

As New wrote in his post, things were off to a good start. I was playing my usual aggressive style that can often catch a first time opponent off guard. When facing a new player, I will typically raise pre-flop by 2-3x the blind to see if they will drop their cards enough to give me a reason to keep doing it. New was definitely giving me a reason.

At some point players finally realize that I can't possible have that many good cards. By the time this happens, I usually already have a huge chip advantage. Such was the case with the first match.

In the second match, New was adjusting his play a bit and I changed up to more of a post-flop game. I still kept my aggressive style going but could backdown when necessary. I did chuckle a few times when he raised 1/3 of his stack a couple of times pre-flop. I'm not a big fan risking too many chips pre-flop unless I have a premium pair to fight back with. The turning point in this match was my hitting top pair with a OESD, I moved all in on the flop only to find that New had flopped the nut straight.

The second and third matches are a bit of a blur. I know the last match went over 50 hands. I was losing my focus and patience. Finally, I choked big time when I failed to fold my KK with an A on the board. New was kind to say, "What could you do?" I had KK afterall right....FOLD FOLD FOLD...that is what I could do. Really simple. I bet the flop to test his strength...and then failed to listen to the reply (a re-raise).

So yes, I choked.

Despite my loss, it was nice to meet another blogger. As I commented on New's post, if nothing else, I hope his HU game is improved as a result of facing the Poison.

Aside from this event, I had a pretty sweet weekend. Saturday night I had my first Party at the new place. The evening included food, drinks, and a single table NL tournament.

My guests included:

My friend Deb won the event, my Dad took 2nd, and my brother came in third. My family loves to play poker, so I wasn't too surprised with the result. That is where my passion for the game started. I grew up playing cards. The one thing you can count on at my Dad's house during the holidays is a family game of poker.

Since I am not much of a cook, I made pre-cooked Teriaki Chicken that you buy from Costco and simply warm up in the oven. White rice which I made in my new rice cooker. I had read the instructions for about 15 minutes (don't laugh!) and finally got help from my brother who is a fantastic cook. Eggrolls. Meatballs. And sauteed zuccini. Everyone enjoyed the meal.

For drinks, there was a choice of Magaritas, Eggnog (I know it's early..but it tasted yummy), Wine, and beer.

HighPlains was kind enough to run the event. He is great at setting up the structure and managing the blind changes and such. Plus this allowed me to keep up with my hostess duties.

I was able to break in my new poker table and copag cards that I bought just for this event.

It was a great evening. Somehow, I even managed to stay sober..despite my slow sipping of the Eggnog and Margaritas. Hmmm...has my alcohol tolerance improved? Perhaps I am getting better prepared for the next blogger event that I will be attending in December.

Last night, I went to HighPlains tourney as I love to do. This time the Eggnog worked much better...We played HORSE and I went out early. Then I played one of the guys that I enjoy teasing a game of HU for $40 and lost.

Finally, still not quite ready to drive...I used High's computer to play a $20 single table SNG on Full Tilt. I came in first which paid $90.

It is Monday morning...uggghhhh...and I am up and all I want to do is get back in bed..and sleep for a few hours...I really don't like mornings..and especially don't like Mondays!
